This full-time course is designed for those who are seeking a career change, and/or aspiring to start a rewarding journey in the care sector. It will equip you with practical skills and knowledge to deliver compassionate and effective care, empowering you to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

This qualification requires the completion of a 135 hour (unpaid) work placement in a direct support role in an aged care, home and community care disability or community service organisation

Classroom – In person only, at our Warabrook NSW Training Campus135 hours of (unpaid) work placement required. Organised by ESTR.

This qualification provides pathways to work in an Aged Care, Home and Community Care or Disability Service Organisation in a role that involves direct client support e.g., Assistant in Nursing, Care Worker, Community Care Worker, Disability Support Worker etc.

This qualification requires the completion of (15) units: (9) core units and (6) elective units. On enrolment you will have the option to choose to specialise in support in Ageing or Disability, with the elective units tailored to the chosen specialisation.

Delivery Mode

This full-time course runs for (6) months and involves face-to-face training, in person at our Warabrook, NSW campus. It includes two (unpaid) work placement blocks, one midway through the course and the other at the end, totaling (135) hours. Essential Skills Training and Recruitment will organise the work placement(s).

  • CHCCCS040 Support independence and wellbeing
  • CHCCCS041 Recognise healthy body systems
  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  • CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
  • HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Depending on the specialisation, the following elective units will be completed;

Elective Units – Ageing (6)

  • CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia
  • CHCAGE013 Work effectively in aged care
  • CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
  • CHCCCS036 Support relationships with carer and family
  • CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Elective Units – Disability (6)

  • CHCDIS011 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
  • CHCDIS012 Support community participation and social inclusion
  • CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support
  • CHCCCS044 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
  • CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Assessment Strategies
Each unit will comprise of a number of assessment tasks which may include short knowledge tests, projects, case studies, research, written reports and participating in practical activities such as classroom and workplace observations, roleplays and presentations.
It is expected that you will need additional time outside of class to complete your assessments.

Logbook
You will be given a Logbook that contains the practical workplace observations, projects and timesheet to record your work placement hours relevant to the specific units of competency. The Logbook is a key component of this course and must be completed.

The price for this qualification will vary and is based upon specific eligibility requirements for government subsidies available at the time of your enrolment. We will determine your eligibility for any subsidies available as part of our enrolment application pre-training review process. You will be issued with a quote detailing your exact course fee before your enrolment is finalised.

There are 3 steps involved in the enrolment process.

  1. The completion of an Online Enrolment Application
  2. A Pre-Training Interview with one of our Customer Relationships Officers
  3. The completion of an online Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment.

The purpose of this process is to ensure that this course is both appropriate, and the most suitable course option for you, to determine if there is any additional support required to assist you with your training and to verify your eligibility for Government subsidies that may be available to you.

Please note the LLN assessment will be sent in a separate link and is not suitable for completion on mobile phones. You should allow (30) minutes to (1) hour to complete the LLN Assessment.

We are unable to enrol International students at this time.

The Customer Relationships Officer will provide you with a quote for your course fee as part of the Pre-Training Review process. On acceptance of the quote, a deposit will be required to finalise your enrolment.
