10735NAT – Course in Disability First Aid

 

After extensive research and consultation with the disability sector, this course was originally established by co-founders Joel Robinson (Ambulance Attendant) and Leanne Innes of Disability First Aid (Pty Ltd). Now in partnership with Essential Skills Training, this course has been tailored to extend on traditional first aid training, providing critical skills in the following key areas:

*  CPR in a bed;
*  Seizures in a wheelchair;
*  Choking whilst in a wheelchair or bed;
*  Implementing personal evacuation plans;
*  Pressure sores and infection recognition;
*  Suicide recognition in a disability setting.

 

Eligibility criteria:

All participants must have a current version of the HLTAID003 Provide First Aid certificate. They are also required to complete an online quiz prior to attending the workshop.

The challenges that carers, family and health care workers face when administering first aid to a person with a disability in an emergency situation, can be different and more complex than people without a disability This can made even more difficult when the situation requires an immediate response and limited information or/contact is available. By understanding the basics of a person’s disability and knowing what to do in an emergency situation (based on medical advice), you can gain valuable knowledge and skills which may enable you to save person’s life. The following course aims to give you the confidence and ability to assist a person with a disability when it really matters. This course will give you information and practical skills on Disability First Aid treatments.

Introduction:

The course consists of;

1. Theory component
The theory component contains all the important information and explanations on Disability First Aid. Your knowledge of this will be tested via a multiple-choice assessment.

2. Practical simulations and assessments
The Practical simulations and assessment components of the course involve learning and being assessed on the physical techniques taught in the course. This is to be attended with Essential Skills Training and Recruitment.

Once the components of the course are completed satisfactorily you will receive a statement of obtainment for 10735NAT Course in Disability First Aid.
